Lydia Ko has withdrawn from the LPGA tournament in Texas because of an eye infection and could lose the No. 1 ranking she has held for 79 straight weeks.
Ko was 1-over after the first two days and pulled out before Saturday’s third round of the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout.
Ko has been fighting allergies all week due to pollens in the air in the Dallas area, which worsened the irritation, according to her agent, Michael Yim.
“Her left eye started swelling up yesterday,” Yim told GolfChannel.com. “It got so bad, she said she couldn’t see the little white alignment line on her putter.”
Number One Ranking In Jeopardy
Ko, who was 1-over-par through two rounds after shooting 70-73, could potentially lose her No.1 spot in the Rolex Rankings if Ariya Jutanugarn, who is currently in second place, goes on to win.
