Rory McIlroy Ties The Knot In Lavish $250K Wedding In Ireland

Rory McIlroy, 27, married his fiancée Erica Stoll, 29, at Ashford Castle in Co. Mayo, Ireland earlier today, E! News has reported.

Lavish… $250K

According to the report on E!, the four-time major champion and Stoll “got hitched in a lavish, $250,000 wedding at the 13th century castle with a slew of celebs at their side, including Stevie Wonder, One Direction’s Niall Horan, Ed Sheeran, 50 Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.”

Historic Castle

Ireland’s Independent News reported, “the wedding venue, an exclusive 350-acre estate, is no stranger to stars from as far back as the 1950s when it was the setting for screen classic The Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. The village of Cong thrives on its connections to the film and big names visiting Ashford like Ronald Reagan and Pierce Brosnan.”

Other guests reportedly included former Ryder Cup colleagues: Sergio Garcia, the recent winner of the Masters, two-time major winners Martin Kaymer and Padraig Harrington, as well as former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.

Rory’s Credit is Good

Belfast Live notes that Rory shouldn’t have an issue paying for the expensive nuptials, given that he’s worth an estimated “€126 million Euros (or $135M US) and is one of the most marketable athletes on the planet.”

In 2016, Rory earned $36M in total – on-course (winnings) and off-course (sponsorships). And according to Forbes, this made him was the 17th highest-earning athlete in the world.

McIlroy reportedly met Stoll, 29, when she was working for the PGA of America in 2012, according to the Golf Channel.

The post at the NBC-owned website continued, “the two began dating in 2015 after McIlroy broke off his previous engagement with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, and they were engaged in December 2015”
